It's been a long wait for my next book review because I was looking for something exceptional.
The narrative of Anpanman and Cars is mostly visual, but the medium is the message here. All of the Anpanman cast is packed into what appears to be a cardboard sport utility vehicle, but when opened, different characters disappear and appear, riding and driving all sorts of vehicles in a vast, dreamlike traffic jam. You can open it up and pretend to make it into a flip phone, but no calling while driving! Flimsy construction allows the reader to pull off their favorite parts and pop then into his mouth, but they don't taste like their namesake pastries; an unfortunate oversight by an otherwise flawless publication.
